Axon is an OEM line of speaker drivers and passive components distributed by Orca
Design. Orca is the U.S. distributor for Focal and PHL. It's also the manufacturer
of Raven ribbons. In addition to the familiar name brands, Orca distributes other
drivers to the OEM market made by a variety of manufacturers, all under their own
Axon house brand name. Some of these have found their way into direct marketing
channels and kits and are quite decent. These include:
- The T1 semi-rigid fabric dome
tweeter. This 1" tweeter is made for Orca by an unnamed manufacturer. The T1 is
sold directly to the DIY market by Zalytron. This a good unit, with flat FR and
good numbers. This is probably the best bargain tweeter for shielded
applications. For non-shielded applications, the
Dayton/Parts Express #275-070 seems to be preferred
by many who've heard both.
- The 6S3 6.5" mid/bass is used
by Zalytron in their "German 2-way" kit speaker one of the best kit values on
the market (which also uses the Axon T1). Zalytron also sells the 6S3
separately. This is a polymer coned driver and is used in the Zalytron in a
sealed box, yielding decent but hardly spectacular low end response.
